Alleged $620,000 Bribe: Farouk Lawan Rejects Prison Food

Reports say that detained lawmakers at the Kuje Prison in Abuja;
Farouk Lawan and Boniface Emenalo, have refused to eat food prepared
by the prison facility.
Lawan, a member of the House of Representatives and chairman of the Ad
Hoc Committee on Monitoring of Fuel Subsidy Regime; and his Secretary,
Boniface Emenalo, have been having their meals prepared by their
families from home.
The two were remanded in prison on court orderlast week Friday for an
alleged $620,000 bribery scandal.
It was further gathered that the lawmakers have enjoyed 'special'
treatments at the prison since Friday based on their VIP status.
Also, their families are reportedly planning to negotiate with the
prison officials to provide the new prison 'guests' mattresses from
home tosleep on.
The two legislators will spend a week in Kuje Prison until their bail
applications are heard by the court.
Lawan and Emenalo were taken to court by the Independent Corrupt
Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, for allegedly
receiving $620,000 bribe from an oil magnate, Femi Otedola, of Zenon
Oil.
