After series of meetings and deliberations, the management of the
prestigious University of Lagos(UNILAG) has concluded all necessary
arrangements and plans for its heroic Golden Jubilee Convocation
earlier postponed to now hold on 7th, 8th and 9th of February, 2012.
On Monday, the institution authorities made an announcement to all
graduating students, parents/ guardians and other
stakeholders that the Golden Jubilee Convocation Ceremonies earlier
scheduled for January 17, 18 and 19 2013 will now hold on the 7th, 8th
and 9th of February, 2013.
It would be recalled that the annual event was earlier postponed for
certain reasons, relating to name change of the University.
However, with the rejection of the bill by the House of
Representatives to change the name of the institution from University
of Lagos (UNILAG) to MoshoodAbiola University (MAULAG) left Mr.
President with no other alternative than toaccept that the institution
must remain what it is, in deed and in truth.
Information gathered by DailyPost from a reliable source reveals that
the main issue at the Presidency is no longer on whether the
convocation will hold or not, but whether it will be safe for the
president toattend.
The source said, " the Presidency is really very worried over his
attendance because of irate students. Out of the three days scheduled
for the events, President Jonathan is likely to be present by the
weekend when most activities have been concluded and students will be
scanty.
Representative of Mr. President, while speaking to officials of the
school, downplayed the name-change saying it was just an honour for a
virile Nigerian, Chief Moshood Abiola, and that the President had no
ulterior motive.
It was also reported that President Goodluck Jonathan communicated
same to the University after his defeat.
However, authorities of the great institution wants his presence so he
can use his own mouth to mention the University's name in deed and in
truth.
